Radon gas can be\u00a0drawn into a building and accumulate to\u00a0concentrations that can increase the\u00a0potential for contracting lung cancer.<br \/>\n\u2013 Although there are rare cases where the\u00a0source of the radon has come from\u00a0building materials created from spent uranium\u00a0processing plants, the major\u00a0source of radon in Colorado homes\u00a0comes from the natural deposits of\u00a0uranium commonly found in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft wp-image-11757\" src=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-lungs.jpg\" alt=\"radon lungs\" width=\"199\" height=\"175\" \/>Question #2 &#8211; Why should I be concerned about Radon:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Radon is regarded as a Group A\u00a0carcinogen; it is known to cause cancer in\u00a0humans with prolonged exposure. Take advantage of our limited time $100 48 hour radon test.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/radon-testing-special-offer\/\">Click here to schedule yours today.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Question #4 &#8211; How is a Radon test performed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft wp-image-11756\" src=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-detector-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"radon detector\" width=\"176\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-detector-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-detector.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 176px) 100vw, 176px\" \/>&#8211; A short-term radon test, which is the most typical type of test, is conducted for a minimum of 48 hours<br \/>\n&#8211; The radon detector is set in the lowest living space in the home that could be occupied or lived in<br \/>\n&#8211; All the windows of the home are closed during the test and must remain closed during the testing process<br \/>\n&#8211; Various types of radon detection devices are available, although most home inspectors utilize an electronic detector called a Continuous-Radon-Monitor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question #5 &#8211; How do I interpret radon test results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; \u00a0If a short-term radon test is conducted in the lowest portion of a\u00a0home that could be occupied, while all exterior doors and windows\u00a0are closed for a minimum of two days, one can reasonably say:<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11761 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-graphic-e1439325091907-300x144.png\" alt=\"radon-graphic\" width=\"300\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-graphic-e1439325091907-300x144.png 300w, https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/radon-graphic-e1439325091907.png 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n\u2013 If the result is less than 4.0 pCi\/L, the annual average of the home\u00a0under normal lived-in conditions is also likely to be less than 4.0 pCi\/L. \u00a0Mitigation or further action is not required at this time, but periodic retesting\u00a0should be done.<br \/>\n\u2013 If the level is at or above 4.0 pCi\/L the house has the\u00a0potential for being above 4.0 pCi\/L and you should\u00a0consider follow-up testing or taking action to reduce\u00a0(mitigate) the radon in the home.\u00a0Mitigation should be pursued at this time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question #6 &#8211; How is radon mitigated or reduced:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Considerable research has been conducted by governmental agencies and private\u00a0industry within the state of Colorado to help develop techniques\u00a0for properly\u00a0mitigating radon in homes.
