An unpleasant, but necessary spring task is cleaning out your gutters and downspouts. Over time, the gutters on your home will collect leaves, dirt, roofing material and a lot more. It is also important to ensure that all downspouts are pushing water away from the home.<\/p>\n<h2>If your gutters look like what you wish your garden looked like, it&#8217;s time to break out the ladder and clean your gutters.<\/h2>\n<p>When you clean your gutters, you will probably be using a lot of water to flush them out. Take a minute to walk around the house and make sure your downspout extensions at effectively moving that water away from the foundation wall.\u00a0The lack of properly working gutters and downspouts can be the source of significant damage to the siding and to the home. It can also lead to foundation problems and settlement issues, due to the clay soils we have in Colorado.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-overflow:visible;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last fusion-column-no-min-height\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\">\n<div id=\"attachment_12278\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/20160516_101641-e1463499506714.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12278\" class=\"wp-image-12278\" src=\"https:\/\/scotthomeinspection.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/20160516_101641-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"gutter extension needed\" width=\"610\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12278\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This downspout needs an extension to push water away from the house.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While you are up there, it is also important to check your gutters for rust holes or cracks. These should\u00a0be sealed to prevent water run off. You can also buy a product such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/b\/Building-Materials-Roofing-Gutters-Gutters-Accessories-Gutter-Guards\/N-5yc1vZar5e\"><strong>gutter guards<\/strong><\/a> to prevent future debris from ruining all your hard work.<\/p>\n<p>Spring has sprung!
